Birthing Center Vlog

Hey mamas! We’re going to try doing some “vlogs” over the next few months (vlogs = “video blogs” that document people’s lives), and what better place to start than with the birth of sweet Paloma Skye?

This first one documents the time right after her delivery and our first two days in the birthing center.

Let us know if you like this intimate look into our lives, and if you’d like to see more vlogs in the future.

XOXO,

Genevieve

First: LOVED the video! I was able to get a glimpse of some aspects of natural birthing/parenting I had, and some questions answered. Thank you!

Second: I was SO glad to find your blog on a friend’s FB page. I made a lot of food, food storage, health, and lifestyle changes this past year, and in about the past 3 years in total, and watching your videos and reading your blog posts was so nice, I felt like I could finally relate to someone else! I am a native Chicagoan, and was so happy to see my hometown! I moved to New Orleans last year, and it’s been very rough trying to find the foods/supplements/health products I need here, as it’s not exactly the most healthful state. Though I’m not a parent yet, I hope to be able to stay as disciplined about what my future children eat, play with, etc., as I venture into parenthood someday. It definitely has its challenges, but it pays off threefold–I can tell in my own health, alone!

Thank you times a million for all your effort in showing us how you live a truly natural life!

Genevieve, I am so happy for your family. I don’t comment here often, but your little vlog really touched my heart. What a fun new adventure you’re on! Yes, difficult, but worth it, right? Praise Jesus. Anyway, I hope you’re getting tons and tons of rest. Like, weeeeeeks of rest. Paloma is such a sweet, sweet, name. You know its going to pick up in popularity now, right?! I don’t know any Palomas, but its beautiful. Enjoy the warmth of your home and those baby snuggles!

Congratulations! I’ve been following your story since I found out I was pregnant at the end of summer and it was so funny to see your room on the video, it looks just like the birthing center at west suburban! Are you with the oak park midwives too? I just found out I’m having twins which opts me out of using it but I’m already looking forward to next time after seeing how calm and relaxed you all were. What a perfect birthday for little Paloma!

So sweet!! I’d also be so interested in those first few days/weeks home with baby vlogs!!! This was a nice little peak!
And I can’t wait to birth in a birthing center and not a hospital like last time!
So proud of you for going natural! You are so strong and such an inspiration to moms like me!

I had my second little one when my oldest was two. Here are some things that helped me:
    1. Let the oldest help. Give him jobs to do like bringing you diapers and wipes.
    2. You will be nursing a lot. Try to nurse wherever your son is playing or have him bring his toys to you to play with while you are nursing.
    3. There will be times when they are both crying, and you don’t know what is wrong with either of them. Just remember there is always a naptime and a bedtime.
    4. You are not a bad mom if you put on a movie once in awhile for your son.

I loved this. What’s more, my little girl LOVED it. I’m due on Jan. 23 and my toddler daughter and I have been watching your pregnancy updates every week. Not sure how much she gets, but she loved your big belly. So it was so great to have her see this little baby come into your lives. She kept saying, “Why’s baby crying? Where’d baby go?” Thanks for sharing your beautiful family moments with us.

    How beautiful!
Mike I was really hoping that you were carrying Chinese food in that container-:)
Thanks for sharing this intimate time with us.

Someone mentioned something about being vulnerable with your personal life. Well, as Dr. Brene Brown said, vulnerability is telling your whole story with your whole heart. I believe sharing both of your children’s L&D is about as vulnerable as it gets. Tears in my eyes just looking at these pictures. What a beautiful story that has only just entered into the world. Welcome to the world, Paloma. God is good all of the time. <3

childrens* couldn’t read with the tears in my eyes! These children are your heart and soul. They are the greatest story you will ever tell.

  24. Angie November 25, 2013 at 9:25 pm

  25. creole wisdom November 25, 2013 at 7:02 pm

Ya’ll are precious! I like the vlogs… do more :)

It was freezing in MN during that time, I heard it was cold in IL! Winter is not joke in the midwest.

Hugest congrats again, baby Paloma is just stunning!

  26. Whitney Carter November 25, 2013 at 6:34 pm

She’s beautiful and I love her name! Congratulations! Can’t wait to see more of the lovely lady!

  27. Tara November 25, 2013 at 5:53 pm

Just praising God for your amazing delivery, for the safe arrival of little Paloma and that you are all at home now soaking each other up. I am envious of those skin to skin nap time snuggles. My little ones have grown up all to fast. But about a year ago I was soaking up those teeny tiny baby snuggles too and they are so scrumptious. They go so fast, so guiltlessly savor each moment. Vlog if you feel so moved, but we are so vastly less important right now than your time with Paloma and Griffin growing as a new family. Enjoy it! Blessings over all of you in this sacred time.

  28. Amanda November 25, 2013 at 4:57 pm

So beautiful! Thank you for sharing this! I started following you before I had my son in 2011. I just had my daughter on the 14. It has been so fun following you through parenting and pregnancy. Your children are beautiful! Congratulations on little Paloma!

  29. Jenn V. November 25, 2013 at 3:18 pm
