Rocker Board Review (Waldorf Toy)

Is it a boat? A moat? A slide? A ride?

It’s all these things and MORE! This is my review of the Rocker Board.

Do you know about Waldorf toys?

Waldorf Toys are wooden, eco-friendly and organic. More than that, they’re appealing to the senses, beautiful to behold and encourage open-ended, imaginative play.

The latter point is extremely important to me as I believe developing imagination skills are vital for our little ones. When I was growing up, we didn’t have sophisticated toys that beeped, lit up and talked back. While these certainly have there place, so does make believe and improvisation, something that we relied on as kids. Maybe that’s why I’m such a dreamer. LOL!

Enter the Rocker Board

This toy is an absolute hit in the household and among other childhood friends. Griffin uses it as a slide, a hill, a bridge, a obstacle course, a racetrack and a perch to watch his fishie or the world go by.

These Rocker Boards were created to help children develop their sense of balance, stimulate their vestibular system as well as their sense of proprioception (awareness of his/her physical body and its parts.)

A beautiful object

Adding to its versatility, the Rocker Board can be used indoors or out and you can even put two or four boards together for even more fun. I also LOVE that these boards are truly BEAUTIFUL! No more stowing away toys when company comes over, these rocker boards look like a beautiful piece of furniture or an art piece.

Where we got ours

We got our Rocker Board from Bella Luna Toys, a great online shop run by Sarah Baldwin, a Waldorf early childhood educator and author. Check out her blog, where she’s got tons of information to support the magic of childhood and the importance of play.

We are a couple of artisans who have educated our children in the Waldorf School “Escuela Libre Micael” in Madrid, Spain. That’s why we have known this pedagogy and developed a Waldorf toys line in our workshop.
Now, along with other artisans, have a website with which our products can be delivered to any part of the world. You can see it at the following link:

Yay great stuff! Love the many applications, tis the same for so many items where children are concerned e.g a similarly simple cardboard box gets so much play too… this is a beautiful looking durable item too though, something to pass onto the grandkids methinks! xxx
