How Chiropractic Helped Kristin Achieve a Home Birth

  • When did you realize you were really in labor?

I was 41 weeks plus 3 and my midwife did a membrane sweep. I starting contracting. Got an adjustment and acupressure right after. My contractions became more frequent and intense. So I knew I was in full blown labor.

  • What was the most challenging thing about going natural?

For myself I wouldn't say going natural was challenging. It was something I put my mind to and trusted in my body.

Getting chiropractic adjustments monthly until 36 weeks then weekly.

How fast and intense it was. My midwife broke my water and the baby came within an hour.

  • What pain relief strategies worked best?

Labored in the shower. The water helped a lot. Praying through contractions helped tremendously. Put all my focus on God and it helped me get through it.

  • What position did you end up delivering in?

    On my hands and knees.

  • How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?

The best feeling in the world. We didn't find out the sex so that was another great suprise.

  • What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?

Trust your body and know God will never give you something you can't handle. Prepare mentally and physically. Eating healthy, walking, and getting adjustments. Praying and getting encouragement from other women who have done it helps.
