Going To Chiropractor And Staying Active Throughout Her Pregnancy Helped Ashley During Her Hospital Birth

  • When did you realize you were really in labor?

About 9pm at night! I had been having slight cramps off and on for the last few days so I didn’t think much about it. Then at 9pm they became very intense right away even though they were 11 minutes a part I knew this was it as my labor with our first child started very intense and lasted only 6hrs.

  • What was the most challenging thing about going natural?

The pain. I went natural with my first born and so I knew I wanted to do it again and I knew I could handle it. However, I had bad back pain with this labor and I felt like that was worse. Also, the “ring of fire” feeling when you are pushing and the baby is crowning... yeah not a fun feeling.

  • What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?

I stayed active throughout my pregnancy, went to the chiropractor every few weeks, read supernatural childbirth book, declared over my body that I would have another great birthing experience and lots of prayer!!

  • What surprised you about your birth?

It only lasted 3hrs and 53min! And I only pushed for 12min of that!

  • Believe you can do it!! Have faith the Lord designed your body to labor and deliver your beautiful children!
  • What pain relief strategies worked best?

Continue to move for a while, squatting, heating pad on my lower back, my husband always encouraging me and giving me a hand to squeeze, I would hum or sing through my contractions. I had worship music playing the whole time it helped me focus on the Lord and what he designed our bodies to do, instead of the pain. Breathing through contractions, and declaring over my body that I was made to do this and that I would soon be meeting our little boy!!

  • What position did you end up delivering in?

I pushed mostly laying on my side then the last 3 pushes I was on my back elevated by pillows so I could pull my legs up, tuck my head in and push! Baby was out soon after!

  • How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?

Amazing, perfect, beautiful!! Words can not describe!! It is amazing you have the same response like it was your first!! Nothing can compare to holding your baby for the first time!!

  • What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?

Believe you can do it!! Have faith the Lord designed your body to labor and deliver your beautiful children! Make sure you have something that relaxes you like music or whatever. It helps to be able to focus on something other than the pain. And have a good support system. My husband, nurse and doctor were amazing! Remember all the pain/discomfort will be worth it when you hold your precious baby!
