Hiring A Doula Helped Allison During Her Birth Center Water Birth

  • When did you realize you were really in labor?

    It was about 2:30 am when I realized the pain I was feeling was labor contractions. My water broke at about 6 am.

  • What was the most challenging thing about going natural?

    There was a really challenging part of birth. I think once you commit to going all natural everything follows.

  • What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?

    The most helpful thing was hiring a Doula. She was absolutely amazing and we couldn’t have gotten through the hard parts without her.

  • What surprised you about your birth?

    I was pleasantly surprised at how quickly time passed and how manageable the pain is. Women’s bodies are truly incredible.

  • Going natural is only scary in your mind. Try to remember that we are built for this and the pain is only temporary. After you get your precious little human and it’s beyond worth it. I wouldn’t give birth any other way.
  • What pain relief strategies worked best?

    I like a few different pain managements. I had a tens unit which I refused to take off. Also, standing with my guy in the shower. It was calm and warm in there.

  • What position did you end up delivering in?

    I wound up delivering in the huge tub that the birth center provided.

  • How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?

    Holding my baby for the first time was indescribable. So much love and happiness.

  • What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?

    Going natural is only scary in your mind. Try to remember that we are built for this and the pain is only temporary. After you get your precious little human and it’s beyond worth it. I wouldn’t give birth any other way.
