  • When did you realize you were really in labor?

    Once I hit transition and then began pushing. Up until that point I was convinced it was false labor!

  • What was the most challenging thing about going natural?

    Overcoming fear. Fear of pain. Fear of potential transfer. Fear of outcomes. Fear of the labor and birth process. Fear of change. One must learn to accept the fear and then learn how to face and overcome it.

  • What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?

    Meditation and prayer. Becoming centered and focused.

  • What surprised you about your birth?

    It seemed to pass quickly even though it was 11 hours. It was so very peaceful and redeeming after a traumatic first birth. I didn't know birth could be an enjoyable experience.

  • What pain relief strategies worked best?

    Changing positions, rocking on a birth ball, massage, counter pressure, heated rice sock, and the birth pool.

  • What position did you end up delivering in?

    Hands and knees in the birth pool

  • How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?

    Fabulous. Like holding pure love in my arms.

  • What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?

    Fight for it. Prepare. Train your body, mind and spirit. Don't leave room for doubt or fear.
