Practicing Comfort Measures And Relaxing Helped Rebecca Achieve Her Home Water VBAC Birth

  • When did you realize you were really in labor?

Friday afternoon we were shopping at Walmart. Came home and made dinner and contractions got more intense so I called my midwife!

  • What was the most challenging thing about going natural?

Baby was posterior. She was pinching my cervix up against my pubic bone. My midwife had to hold my cervix and pull it forward so Baby could stretch it evenly and not tear. It hurt so bad!

  • What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?

Practicing comfort measures and constantly trying to relax my body and focus on the end goal!

  • What surprised you about your birth?

How difficult it was. My third baby, but definitely my hardest labor.

  • Don’t be scared! Prepare yourself as much as you can with research on alternative ways to relieve pain! This was my second vbac! I would encourage women who have had a c-section to definitely try to have a vaginal birth! It’s amazing to experience how our bodies were made to work!
  • What pain relief strategies worked best?

Breathing, laboring in water, and acupressure.

  • What position did you end up delivering in?

Sitting/squatting in birth pool with my back against my husband.

  • How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?

Exhilarating! I was so happy it was finally over!

  • What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?

Don’t be scared! Prepare yourself as much as you can with research on alternative ways to relieve pain! This was my second VBAC! I would encourage women who have had a c-section to definitely try to have a vaginal birth! It’s amazing to experience how our bodies were made to work!
