Reading Natural Birthing Books And Practicing Deep Breathing Techniques Helped Jennifer During Her Birth Center Birth

  • When did you realize you were really in labor?

I realized that I was in labor while I was out walking. I walked 4 miles that morning and contractions were about 2-4 minutes apart the whole time. The contractions continued to intensify for the next few hours. At one point I had to breathe through them and I decided that I would be having a baby that day!

  • What was the most challenging thing about going natural?

The most challenging thing about natural childbirth are the painful contractions prior to pushing. There comes a time in everyone’s mind when we think— I can’t do this anymore and that is when you really have to focus in.

I read lots of books. Books about birthing, natural births, things to do and think about during labor etc. I also practiced some deep breathing techniques.

  • What surprised you about your birth?

I was surprised at the progress I made while sitting in a warm whirlpool tub. I was 6 cm dilated when I got in and 9 when I got out. This really helped me relax and dilate.
