Relaxing And Mentally Focusing Helped Faith During Her First Hospital Birth

  • When did you realize you were really in labor?

Once my contractions got so bad I had to stop what I was doing and deal with the pain, shortly after that like an hour later my water broke.

  • What was the most challenging thing about going natural?

The pain of my contractions becoming so seriously unbearable.

  • What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?

Researching about how and what you can do to cope with the pain.

  • What surprised you about your birth?

First that I survived and actually want to do it again. Also how quickly I was able to push him out took about 30 minutes. And how big he was, deff didn't expect such a big baby, 8 pounds 12.4oz with only a tiny tear.

  • It was amazing even those couple seconds truly something indescribable.
  • What pain relief strategies worked best?

1.Mentally focusing. 2.Relaxing instead of tightening when contractions come, which is not easy when they become so painful.
P.S my plan was to go all natural, wait 5 mins to cut the cord, put on chest and have skin to skin, no medications at all. But instead the pain was so bad after laboring for almost 9 hours I couldn't take it anymore and got all the pain relief I could, I ended with the epidural . Also because baby had passed meconium and was not responding when he came out they set him on my chest for a couple seconds and then had to wisk him away the cord was cut and no skin to skin or breast feeding time. It was sad but I have to say to others come prepared for your plan to possibly change. Everything's perfect now.

  • What position did you end up delivering in?

I was semi fowlers but they did turn me on my side for a little while I was pushing.

  • How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?

It was amazing even those couple seconds truly something indescribable.

  • What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?

All natural is the way to go ! Try your best, research about ways to cope with the pain naturally. But do remember all births are different and sometimes birthing plans don't go as planned, be prepared mentally for changes its just how it goes and please do not feel guilty or get mad at yourself if in the moment you have to change your plan all you can do is try your best. Trust me I wanted nothing but all natural and it just didn't work that way this time. Always have next time :) good luck to you! all the pain is way worth it.
