Relaxing, Stretching And Envisioning Her Birth Helped Meg Achieve Her Home Water Birth

  • When did you realize you were really in labor?

When my rushes were three minutes apart and I had to start moaning through contractions.

  • What was the most challenging thing about going natural?

Getting the birth pool water warm enough to ease some of the pain (but not too hot!) and also supporting my own perineum while pushing.

  • What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?

Relax and stretch, envisioning the birth.

  • What surprised you about your birth?

She was born before the midwife got here!

  • You can do It! I've been through four natural births and I'm not the toughest cookie when it comes to pain. Going natural gives you so much more freedom to labor and birth as you wish, instead of being stuck in bed and hooked up to machines.
  • What pain relief strategies worked best?

Vocalizing, gentle caressing from my Doula and partner, warm water in the birth pool.

  • What position did you end up delivering in?

Hands and knees; I've delivered on H&K every time!

  • How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?

    Slippery and amazing
    Triumphant!

  • What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?

You can do It! I've been through four natural births and I'm not the toughest cookie when it comes to pain. Going natural gives you so much more freedom to labor and birth as you wish, instead of being stuck in bed and hooked up to machines.
