Baby will double in size this week, and so will something else inside of you! Plus, is your smartphone harmful to baby?
This is a massive growth week for baby! She’ll start week 7 around the size of a pea, and then double in size to something more like a blueberry. Big girl! Thankfully, her tail is diminishing in size; it will disappear completely in the next week or two. The little buds for her arms and legs are pronounced, and you can even see some definition where the hands and feet will form. Facially, baby’s eyes and nostrils are taking shape. Baby’s brain continues to grow quickly—each minute, she adds over 100 new brain cells. By next week, your little smarty-pants will have developed over a million new brain cells!
That little blueberry baby of yours is creating all kinds of awesome changes in your body, even if you’ve got no belly to show for it yet. For starters, your uterus has DOUBLED in size since this pregnancy adventure began. Your blood volume has increased too, which is why your trips to the john are becoming more frequent. Too bad you don’t want to be touched, because your boobs are sore, you're exhausted, and you just may throw up on him!
Other breast changes you may notice include:
All of these breast changes are preparing your body for breastfeeding, even at this early date!

In a few weeks, your doctor or midwife may be able to find your baby's heartbeat with a Doppler. While it’s AMAZING to hear those first beats, do you know that there are some potential risks associated with Doppler and ultrasound use?
I’m not saying that you can’t take advantage of any of these marvels of technology during your pregnancy. I’m just suggesting that you be informed and empowered about the pros and cons. It breaks my heart when moms get multiple ultrasounds and Dopplers only to learn about the risks afterward.

Speaking of technology, be aware that your cell phone, computer, and Wi-Fi signal can be harmful to baby. Wait, what?!?! Yes, according to Dr. Dietrich Klinghardt, exposure to these and other sources of high electromagnetic frequencies (EMFs) during pregnancy can cause neurological dysfunction within the first 2 years of your child’s life. There may also be a link between high exposure of EMFs and increased risk of infertility and miscarriage.
Now, don’t panic—you don't have to give up your iPhone entirely. Just use it safely. Click here for tips on how to reduce your EMF exposure.
