7 Weeks Pregnant

Baby will double in size this week, and so will something else inside of you! Plus, is your smartphone harmful to baby?

  • Baby at 7 Weeks Pregnant 🚼

This is a massive growth week for baby! She’ll start week 7 around the size of a pea, and then double in size to something more like a blueberry. Big girl! Thankfully, her tail is diminishing in size; it will disappear completely in the next week or two. The little buds for her arms and legs are pronounced, and you can even see some definition where the hands and feet will form. Facially, baby’s eyes and nostrils are taking shape. Baby’s brain continues to grow quickly—each minute, she adds over 100 new brain cells. By next week, your little smarty-pants will have developed over a million new brain cells!

  • You at 7 Weeks Pregnant 🚺

That little blueberry baby of yours is creating all kinds of awesome changes in your body, even if you’ve got no belly to show for it yet. For starters, your uterus has DOUBLED in size since this pregnancy adventure began. Your blood volume has increased too, which is why your trips to the john are becoming more frequent. Expect more of that.

Your boobs may be looking a little more sizable as well. Many mamas will have to buy new bras during pregnancy to house their growing girls. And just watch as your husband or partner becomes all googly-eyed as he admires your growing shape. Too bad you don’t want to be touched, because your boobs are sore, you're exhausted, and you just may throw up on him!

Other breast changes you may notice include:

    • Little bumps appearing around your nipples on the areolas. These are called Montgomery glands. They secrete a lubricating fluid to protect your nipples as you breastfeed. And trust me, you’re going to appreciate that!
    • Blue veins running from the top of your breasts down toward the nipple. This brings extra blood flow and nutrients to baby postpartum.
    • Darkening of your areolas. I will never forget this phenomenon. In fact, seeing this was my first suspicion that I may be pregnant. These dark circles help to make it easier for baby to spot breast.

All of these breast changes are preparing your body for breastfeeding, even at this early date!
