Prenatal Yoga Helped Rachel During Her Hospital Birth

  • When did you realize you were really in labor?

    Friday evening at home after trying to sleep and getting too uncomfortable to do so after a couple hours I knew it was the real deal.

  • What was the most challenging thing about going natural?

    Working with my body and trying not to fight against the contractions and urges.

    Prenatal yoga! The deep breathing and concentration that I practiced was extremely helpful for me throughout labor.

  • What surprised you about your birth?

    It wasn't as painful or bad as I had worried about! Especially because I felt prepared mentally and remained calm, my experience ended up being very smooth.

  • Trust your body, this experience is totally natural and normal and if you let things happen and get out of your head it will help things unfold with ease
  • What pain relief strategies worked best?

    Deep breathing, internal focus and relaxing as much as possible.

  • What position did you end up delivering in?

    Semi reclined on my back with legs held up and back. I had tried on my side and squatting but my body was getting fatigued.

  • How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?

    Surreal, wonderful and warm! The whole experience seemed like a dream and a whirlwind, I couldn't believe she was really here!

  • What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?

    Trust your body, this experience is totally natural and normal and if you let things happen and get out of your head it will help things unfold with ease
