Ivy Name Meaning

A nature name with floral feels, Ivy is simply stunning. She’s an English name with an upscale air yet she’s approachable enough to avoid feeling stuffy.

Ivy is part of the vintage name trend, the surge that includes Nora, Madeline, and Lydia. She also has the in-demand vowel start as seen in Emma, Isabella, and Amelia. And we’d be slacking if we didn’t point out the trendy V sound like Ava, Olivia, and Evelyn. With all these factored in, it’s not shocking that little Ivy is creeping like a vine up the baby name charts.

Ivy is undoubtedly mature, but she is also adorable on a little girl. In childhood, she’s sweet as could be, the perfect pick for a little girl who loves playing dress up. As an adult, she has serious fashionista feels, a name fit for the red carpet. Of course, she’ll always be your little star even if she doesn’t take the Hollywood route.

There are plenty of Ivy associations in modern times, from the Pokemon character to Ivy Stuart in Downton Abbey. Some may worry about the association with the itch-inducing plant, but Poison Ivy is also a badass in DC Comics so we wouldn’t pay the negative nickname any mind.
