When did you realize you were really in labor?
I started having contractions earlier that morning, but they went away before lunch. Later that evening they came back and it took me several hours until I realized they were the real thing. They became more intense and closer together very quickly. Overall, labor was a little over 6 hours.

What was the most challenging thing about going natural?
Trying to focus and stay calm during the really intense contractions. There were a couple of times where I felt like I couldn't do it!

What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?
Watching birthing videos on YouTube and hiring a doula.
-
What surprised you about your birth?
I wound up birthing my water bag intact and it was the craziest thing. I had no idea that could happen so I was shocked when I saw it come out (and at first had no idea what it was). I was also surprised at how quick the head came out. Thankfully, I only had to experience the "ring of fire" for a short time.

Do your research and prepare as much as possible. I felt confident this time knowing I was prepared. I also do not think I could have gone through with it without the help of my doula. I can't even put into words how helpful and supportive she was.

What pain relief strategies worked best?
Breathing and deep moans. This is where the doula came in handy. So thankful for her!
-
What position did you end up delivering in?
All fours.
-
How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?
Surreal :)

What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?
