Video Interview With Whitney
-
When did you realize you were really in labor?
About 19 hours into it when I lost my mucus plug. The contractions really ramped up after that.
-
What was the most challenging thing about going natural?
Hearing everyone’s opinion about it before hand. No one thought I could do it. People thought I was crazy for wanting to do it. Driving to the hospital was hard too. We forgot my shoes and purse! Haha. Next time I’d love to deliver at home!

-
What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?
Listening to other women’s positive birth stories! I loved watching natural births on YouTube and Instagram too!
-
What surprised you about your birth?
How loud I was! Haha. I’m generally pretty quiet but I was roaring!! It felt so good to roar.
-
If I can do it, you can do it! You got this mama! It’s worth it times a million!!
-
What pain relief strategies worked best?
Roaring! I also held a comb in my hand the whole time. But honestly, I would t describe the experience as painful. Just really intense, powerful sensations.
-
How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?
A high unlike anything I’ve ever known!!! The high lasted for two whole weeks. I felt like I was on drugs. Pure ecstasy.
-
What did you name your baby, and why?
Brooks. It’s a family name on my husband’s side.
-
What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?
If I can do it, you can do it! Birth is 2/3 mental and 1/3 physical. Prepare your mind with positive birth stories and visualize the birth you want. You got this mama! It’s worth it times a million!!
