Breathing And Moving Around Helped April During Her Hospital VBAC Birth

  • When did you realize you were really in labor?

Sunday June 25, 2017. I had contractions on/off throughout the day. I noticed they were getting closer together and stronger. I had to really focus that night and told my husband to go to bed and get some sleep, as I would be laboring on my own downstairs. It was exciting for me, since I was going to attempt my 1st VBAC.

  • What was the most challenging thing about going natural?

The most challenging thing for me was committing to the VBAC. I wanted this baby naturally and as quick as possible. I know drugs can possibly slow things down and I was trying everything not to have a repeat c-section.

  • What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?

This class and practicing my breathing techniques. Boy did they help me out A LOT!

  • What surprised you about your birth?

How long I was able to labor at home. I labored at home for 9 hours, then 2 at the hospital and then pushed for 1 hour.

  • I cried and laughed at the same time. I felt so overjoyed and empowered!
  • What pain relief strategies worked best?

Breathing and moving around. I loved bending over the bed with my head between my arms.

  • What position did you end up delivering in?

Squatting (probably what caused my 2nd degree tear)

  • How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?

I cried and laughed at the same time. I felt so overjoyed and empowered!

  • How did the Mama Natural Birth Class help you in your childbirth?

This class helped me prepare by teaching me the physiological aspects of labor, what is actually going on inside the body and how you can work with your body in labor to make birthing easier.
