Scarlett Name Meaning

Scarlett is a name of passion and art, held by movie stars and literary figures alike. Despite her beauty, Scarlett didn’t take off in the charts until the early 2000s while her variant Scarlet remained in her shadows.

Named after the vibrant shade of red, Scarlett summons thoughts of roses and love. She’s also got roots in the finer things life has to offer, as scarlet was a luxury cloth found in Medieval Europe. She’s a surprising surname and occupational name as well, as a scarlet was a title given to those that sold the expensive cloth in ancient times.

Today she’s more at home with her sisters Violet and Ruby on the charts, offering a pop of color without being too obvious like Blue. She’s also a literary classic, fitting in well with the likes of Harper and Imogen. She’s also regal and proud, no doubt just as strong as Katherine or Victoria.

A little Scarlett is a bundle of sass, ready to show the world what she has to offer whether its singing, dancing, or writing code. Her colorful moniker sets her apart from the pack and she’s known to do things her own way when she sees fit. She’s a fan of feathers and extravagance, but also not one to turn down a good old-fashioned family picnic.

Scarlett is beautiful enough to remain untouched though those looking for a nickname have a real gem in Lettie.

  10. I loved the name Scarlett because of its feminine and strong nature. Bringing a child into the world in a time like this I knew she would be a strong, resilient little girl with a name to match. The color scarlet symbolizes courage, passion, force, joy, and heat.

The name also has associations with the bright red color scarlet. Scarlett originated as an occupation surname, designating a person who sold scarlet, a luxury wool cloth produced in Medieval Europe. The word is thought to derive from the Arabic sikl?t, referring to silks dyed with kermes.

It gained popularity due to the character Scarlett O’Hara in Margaret Mitchell’s best-selling novel Gone with the Wind and the film adaptation. The name was the 17th most popular name given to baby girls in the England and Wales in 2013 and the 30th most popular name given to baby girl in the US

Also popular actress, Scarlett Johanson uses the version with two t’s which I prefer giving it more of a femininity.
