Eating Well and Continuing Her Weight Training With a Trainer Helped Kate During Home Birth

  • When did you realize you were really in labor?

11:30PM when my minor PMS like cramps came and went much closer together. Normally, I have very severe cramps during my period - these were more like minor annoyances.

  • What was the most challenging thing about going natural?

    Our Midwife wasn't there...

  • What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?

Staying fit - eating well and continuing my weight training with a trainer

  • What surprised you about your birth?

How quick it went! I woke my husband up at 11:30 to call the midwife - water broke at 12am - baby was in my arms at 12:30am!

  • You can do it :) there's no good advice to prepare you, but the pain passes and you go inside yourself to make it happen.
  • What pain relief strategies worked best?

    Deep breathing

  • What position did you end up delivering in?

On my side to slow down the process - I was most comfortable on all fours however

  • How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?

Ecstatic / scary... the midwife was still not there and we weren't sure how to check him out to make sure he was ok.

  • What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?

You can do it :) there's no good advice to prepare you, but the pain passes and you go inside yourself to make it happen.
