Hypnobirthing Relaxation Recordings Helped Rach During Her Home Birth

  • When did you realize you were really in labor?

When my water broke as I got out of bed to pee

  • What was the most challenging thing about going natural?

I honestly can't think of anything challenging. This was my third so... I was just happy that it went quickly.

  • What surprised you about your birth?

That I was able to labor on my own for 6 hours before even waking my husband for support. The baby was born less than two hours after I woke him.

  • Now that I have given birth with no pain meds three times, that is all I know and what I have come to expect. They are really just necessary sensations to breathe through.
  • What pain relief strategies worked best?

Water relief was a Godsend in my last two labors but this one went so fast, we didn't even have time to get in the pool.

  • What position did you end up delivering in?

    Hands and knees.

  • How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?

Relief - it was over and it was early morning and we could introduce him to his siblings straight away before they went to Grandma's.

  • What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?

Just do it! Most midwives are prepared for any complication that arises. I have had quite a few "complications" in my day and they were more than qualified to handle every situation with grace and it really made it a non issue - just part of the territory. Now that I have given birth with no pain meds three times, that is all I know and what I have come to expect. They are really just necessary sensations to breathe through.
