Educating Herself and Practiced Breathing Helped Katie During Her Birth Center Birth

  • When did you realize you were really in labor?

    My water broke around 4:30 PM and I immediately was in hard labor.

  • What was the most challenging thing about going natural?

    The negative feedback from the doctor and other people giving their opinions on my choices!

  • What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?

    Educate myself, practice breathing and plan focus points.

  • What surprised you about your birth?

    It wasn't as bad as people desecribe.

  • You can do it! Stay positive, build yourself up! Look in the mirror and tell yourself you can do it!
  • What pain relief strategies worked best?

    BREATHING! I found something to focus on with every contraction, I picked things I was looking forward to doing with my daughter in her life, her first day of school, her first dance, dates, etc. The excitement in those thoughts really helped take my mind off of the pain.

  • What position did you end up delivering in?

    On my back.

  • How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?

    There are no words to describe the feeling when baby was placed on my chest. The world stopped in that moment, it was just her & I. I mumbled a bunch of lovey words to her and told her how perfect she was. Her skin on my skin in that moment was the most amazing thing ever.

  • What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?

    You can do it! Stay positive, build yourself up! Look in the mirror and tell yourself you can do it! Our awesome bodies were made to make and bring babies into this world! You have came this far and you are so close to meeting your little baby, stay focused, don't stop breathing, use your energy to push & remember you can do it!
