When did you realize you were really in labor?
I instantly went into active labor. I started shaking, throwing up, and had diarrhea (tmi) but I knew that meant labor had started!

What was the most challenging thing about going natural?
Being patient was the most challenging although I found it easy to get into a zone. I focused on my breathing. Deep low hums to get through the pain.

What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?
I read and listened to many natural birth stories. I joined the birth hour podcast. Also took an out of hospital birthing class that was taught by my doula.

What surprised you about your birth?
That it was totally doable. I stayed relaxed and trusted my body.

Birth is such a mental process. Create an environment that will keep you calm ( no one coming in and out) allow yourself to zone out. I found a position that allowed me to nap in between contractions. That little bit of rest went a long way.

What pain relief strategies worked best?
Focusing on my breathing, Also Creating a very dim environment with music playing in the background helped me zone out and stay relaxed.

What position did you end up delivering in?
On my knees leaning forward in a tub.

How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?
I was still in shock. I couldn't believe that birth was over and I did it. I had the birth I wanted. I guess I can say it was relieving to hold her for the first time. I waited for her for so long.

What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?
