When did you realize you were really in labor?
When my water broke at 3am. I called my midwife and she said stay home for a while which I did but decided to go to hospital next day at noon because I felt a lot of water coming down. By then I had no contractions.

What was the most challenging thing about going natural?
Dealing with the pain and remembering all the techniques learned in my Bradley classes. Trying to focus in "waves" instead of contractions.

What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?
Getting informed of my options, take Bradley classes, ask tons of questions to my midwife and other moms.

What surprised you about your birth?
My plan was a water birth and I ended up with an emergency c-section. I wanted an all natural birth and even though I dilated all on my own until 9.5cm, I ended up with tons of medicine in me. My son was facing the wrong way and it took 28 hours for him to be born. He spent 4 days in the NICU. So one important lesson for me was to be prepared for anything with an open and positive mind. I'm 38 weeks pregnant now trying for a VBAC but prepared for anything that helps bring my baby safe to this world!

Inexplicable, amazing, a kind of love and tenderness never experienced

What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?
Be informed and educate yourselves of all the options you have in a hospital. Ask questions and speak up if something doesn't feel right. Be positive and open minded about the outcome of your birth and know that sometimes plans change and it's better to be flexible
