Maintaining a Positive Outlook Toward Going All Natural Helped Rachel During Her Hospital Birth

  • When did you realize you were really in labor?

I experienced prodromal labor for 2 days prior to starting "real" labor. My contractions became more consistant and closer together.

  • What was the most challenging thing about going natural?

Pain. I wasn't prepared for just how painful and tiring birth is.

  • What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?

I just maintained a positive outlook toward going all natural and blocked out all the negativity.

  • What surprised you about your birth?

How amazing you feel afterward! It was rough going unmedicated but totally worth it for the high afterward.

  • Be prepared for it to be the hardest thing you ever do but it's worth it for your baby!
  • What pain relief strategies worked best?

The hour I got to lay in the birthing tub was very peaceful and helped with pain management.

On my back at the hospital. We ended up with a forceps assisted birth though I had planned a home water birth.

  • How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?

    Euphoric!

  • What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?

Be prepared for it to be the hardest thing you ever do but it's worth it for your baby!
