Birth Stories

Red Raspberry Tea And Dates Helped Martina in Her Natural Home Birth

  • When did you realize you were really in labor?

After faling asleep for hour and half I woke up with painful "menstrual cramping". I also had to go to the toilet with No.2.

  • What was the most challenging thing about going natural?

As this was my third birth (first two were also natural) I was looking forward to this one - especially not being that afraid or worrying about timing (if it will take much time).

  • What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?

Red raspberry leaf tea and dates. I think magnesium also helped.

  • What surprised you about your birth?

How quickly it went! We were over and done in one hour and half!

  • I was awed by Gods power, how wonderful my body is and how beautifully our baby knew what to do.
  • What pain relief strategies worked best?

This time I moved alot and surprisingly did not like gymnastic ball at all. My husband found great position where he made counter push in my back during my contractions. But I really did not have to much chance to focus on positions because I was going to the toilet every few minutes.

  • What position did you end up delivering in?

    On all four.

  • How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?

I was awed by Gods power, how wonderful my body is and how beautifully our baby knew what to do.

  • What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?

Contractions and pushes are exactly how they are suppose to be and baby responds to them in synchrony. No pitocin can ever do that. Pushes in second phase are just strong and long enough to push the baby as mothers body is prepared (to avoid tearing). I just needed to trust God, my body and the process. And letting go of my fear.
