Working Out Everyday And Taking The Mama Natural Birth Class Helped Natasha Achieve Her Birth Center Birth

  • When did you realize you were really in labor?

Three days prior. My labor kept coming off and on. Luckily I was able to sleep a lot during the day and it would pick back up at night. On the third morning at 4:00 the contractions changed and I knew this was it. Was admitted at 3:30 pm and she came at 8:20 pm

  • What was the most challenging thing about going natural?

The feeling that I was going to die. It’s funny now but at the time the pain was so excruciating that I thought I couldn’t pull through. Everything was fine and I was where I should’ve been but my brain tapped out. Through the encouragement, guidance, and love from my husband, midwife, and birth assistant I felt empowered to keep pushing and then it was over!

  • What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?

Workout every day. Walking. Pilates. Swimming. Sitting on my exercise ball and never the couch.

  • What surprised you about your birth?

After my daughter came just as she should, everything went to hell. I started hemorrhaging and had to get a shot of pitocin to help get contractions in my uterus. Then the placenta came rather oddly as she had two! And no one knew, so the second one tore inside immediately requiring me to get my uterus sweeped right after delivery which I think hurt more than giving birth. I despise needles and had to have a high dose of antibiotics via IV. I cried, stupid I know but, like I said I Hate Needles! And then to top it off she dislocated my tailbone and sitting was beyond painful. It took a solid 7 months of chiropractic work to heal and she’s only now 8 months old. All this without any pain meds. It was a lot emotionally. The body can only take so much pain and I think I’ve had to forgive what happened after and remember that it was rare to go through what I did. But I’m starting to get excited about the thought of doing again.

  • How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?

A little dazing. Relief. And magical

  • What did you name your baby, and why?

Senna Aurelia I’ve loved Aurelia since 2005 and that was to be her name. Then my husband heard Senna and asked if we could switch it. His love for the name Senna warmed by heart.
