When did you realize you were really in labor?
When we went to the grocery store! I have having consistent contractions while we were shopping!
-
What was the most challenging thing about going natural?
I was coping really well with my pain by just breathing through it until they checked me for dilation, it put stress on my body and made me come out of my meditative state. In the future I would refuse all unnecessary interventions.

What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?
I do not have a high pain tolerance so what helped me was reminding myself that the pain was temporary, it's only a moment in time. Chanting 'it's only temporary' in my mind during contractions really helped!

What surprised you about your birth?
How well I coped with a natural birth! My first son was induced and I had gotten pushed into having an epidural. My natural second birth was a million times easier and faster. I surprised myself with my ability to get through it and stick to my birth plan!

What pain relief strategies worked best?
Breathing & movement! My doula had me up and walking the neighborhood! When I wasn't walking I was bouncing on the birth ball.
-
What position did you end up delivering in?
I was on my back, which is what I did not want in my birth plan. But I was crowning as I walked into the delivery room so I was quickly pulled onto the bed and he was out! I didn't have time to get into another position or he would have been born on the floor!

How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?
It was such a relief! I was so glad to finally have him here! There's no better feeling in the world then having that little babe placed onto your chest for the first time!

What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?
All I can say is if you really want it, don't let anyone push you into thinking you can't do it! My doctor insisted I get induced a second time because I was 'overdue'! I pushed back and ended up with a better birth then I could have ever asked for! Natural hospital births are possible! Know your rights in child birth and make sure you have an advocate for you in the room!
