Christina Stays Positive During Her First Natural Hospital Birth

  • When did you realize you were really in labor?

2am my water broke. I got back in bed and tried to rest. My contractions stared around 7am. I stayed home until they were 3 minutes apart.

  • What was the most challenging thing about going natural?

The nurses didn't know their role so they left us and didn't check up on me. I had to get them when I needed to push.

  • What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?

Took natural birthing classes and read several books.

  • What surprised you about your birth?

I felt that pushing was more difficult than the contractions. Pain I could handle but the physical exhaustion from pushing is what really got to me. Luckily I had him naturally so I knew when to push :)

  • Be prepared and relaxed. Think positively.
  • What pain relief strategies worked best?

Counter pressure, yoga ball, ice on my back.

  • What position did you end up delivering in?

Tried several positions and eventually ended up on my back for the last part because I was so tired.

  • How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?

    There are no words.

  • What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?

Be prepared and relaxed. Think positively.
