Aria Name Meaning

A name as singsongy as her meaning, Aria is an unexpected musical choice that’s taken the baby name world by storm. In music, she’s a vocal solo typically seen in opera while in Italian she’s “air.” Either way, she’s leaving parents gasping in awe.

Aria has blown into the U.S. Top 100 with ease, making herself right at home with -ia names like Olivia and Amelia. As the same time, she’s exotic, turning heads with her unique sound and sheer beauty. She isn’t as long as Isabella or Charlotte but she’s just a feminine without the fuss of added letters. While musical, she’s not as obvious as Harper and Piper but a subtle nod to an appreciation for the art.

Aria is keenly aware of her name’s meaning, even if she prefers painting over piano. She wows adults with her maturity though she occasionally engages in silly songs and giggle sessions. She’s playful and peppy yet calm and serene, able to throw down with some sports as much as she’s willing to curl up with a good book.

A variant is Arya, a Persian name meaning noble. Longer similar sounding alternatives include Ariana and Arabella. Lyra and Cadence are two other less obvious musical choices.

  1. I was searching the internet for names that had to do with eagles. I found “Aria” means, “intelligence of an eagle” and I loved it. It also has many other lovely meanings in other languages. I became pregnant a few months later. Aria was perfect for my baby girl who is adorable, sassy, and spunky.

  2. Italian heritage

  3. Original inspiration came from Game of Thrones, but adjusted the spelling because her middle and last name both have the letter Y, and I thought it looked too much.

  4. I wanted her name to start with an A and after looking through many lists of baby girl names that start with an A, my husband and I came across the name Aria. We both instantly fell in love with that name. It’s also a not so common name which we both liked as well.

    • I really like the name aria because it is my name and a meaning for aria is to sing and I love to sing

  5. It’s the name for a solo soprano piece in an opera and is thought of as the most difficult yet beautiful piece of the entire play

  6. Music is important to me and Aria is timeless and elegant

  7. My baby girl just turned 24..Aria Rose …Aria after hearing her heartbeat..it sounded as beautiful as an Opera Solo and her middle name Rose after my Grandmother?

  8. The ARIA stands for the Australian Recording Industry Awards here hehe weird fact I never forget

  9. I have always loved the name Aria

  10. Unique yet beautiful name. Several meanings in several cultures.

  11. Italian for air, melody, essence of life

  12. I love the multiple meanings of Aria. “Song or melody” in Italian, ‘treasure or gold’ in Albanian, ‘lioness” in Hebrew. She was a HUGE surprise blessing from God, one we did not know we needed. And it just fit!!!

  13. 🙂

  14. It’s beautiful and we loved the meaning.

  15. I had a customer about 11 years ago when I was dating my husband that was named Aralea. I thought it was really pretty, and of course I was thinking about what our future kids names would be so I’d been looking at baby name lists. I didn’t end up liking the meaning, but somehow “Aria” came to my attention and I always liked that word from my voice lesson book: 25 Italian Songs and Arias. It means “a solo song” in Italian. My Grandma’s name is Leona and goes by Lea, so her name is Aria Lea, which is still pretty close to the original Aralea, but has more meaning to me. So I saved the name for over a decade and when we had a daughter my husband loved the name and insisted we name her Aria.

  16. I chose the name Aria as it was very unique to me and I love the meaning behind it. Air or Melody in Italian. Treasure, Gold or of high value in Albania, Lioness in Hebrew and Noble in Persian 🙂

  17. Honestly I loved the show Pretty Little Liars & especially love the main character Aria. So I named my daughter after her. Now if I go to her middle names Margaret-Gracie
I gave her the name Margaret because my son wanted it to be her name & the other middle name Gracie flowed so good & honestly it was already planned for her middle name.

  18. I picked aria bc it was the only name me and her dad could agree on

  19. Aria means “lioness of God.” Our family loves lions AND God, as well as the imagery of lions in the Bible. We also love the idea of strong warrior women. So when we found “Aria,” we immediately felt like it was a perfect fit. We also like that it is a little uncommon.

  20. I found the name Aria on a baby name website. I put it down on my list as a possibility but my partner and I came to really like it. I mainly chose it for the musical connotation but turns out it also means lioness of god which is fitting because she’s a Leo. She is also very strong and a voracious feeder.
The only drawback that I can see is that there is a music awards ceremony in Australia called the Arias. I guess we can just pretend there is an awards ceremony all for her!

  21. I picked Aria because it means song or Melody and I loved how it sounded.

  22. We loved how sweet and feminine Aria sounds. It fits our precious girl’s personality so well! It has the strong Hebrew root meaning of “lioness of God” and the soft feminine Italian meaning of “air or melody”.

  23. All of my grandma’s kids names start with an A and all of my mom’s kids names also start with an A, so I wanted to follow the family tradition as well. Aria was a name that both me and my husband fell in love with. It has the same number of syllables as my first name and both of us have middle names that start with the same letter and have the same syllables lol

  24. Named after Arya from game of thrones, but we changed the spelling to Aria. We love the meaning behind the name, Hebrew meaning is lioness. Latin meaning is solo or song.

  25. Chosen for the meaning, musical name also meaning lioness of God.
    People sometimes say it wrong.
