Birth Stories

Erinn's Third Natural VBAC

  • When did you realize you were really in labor?

I had contractions for weeks before delivery...I think I realized this was it when I checked into the hospital at a 4cm, progressed to a 6cm and while taking a shower contractions did not slow down.

  • What was the most challenging thing about going natural?

Just getting through it was the most difficult. This was my third natural vbac so I knew I could, but it still hurts! Prayer and offering my labor up to God really helped me. My husband was a wonderful support as well.

  • What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?

I always use evening primrose oil....really just prayer and relying on God and my husband got me through.

  • What surprised you about your birth?

It was so fast! One continuous push was all it took. And, my baby's shoulders got stuck. It was a wonderful sacred experience though and I can honestly say I look forward to my next delivery!

  • What pain relief strategies worked best?

Prayer and a supportive husband or doula. And water! Never underestimate the power of a bath or shower!

I was on my back....the traditional labor position they say to avoid is what y body always wants to do.

  • How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?

    Amazing! Indescribable! Awesome!

  • What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?

Believe in yourself. Believe in God. Have a supportive team who knows you can do this, and you will! And it will be the best experience of your life!
