Exercising, Eating Healthy And Chiropractor Helped Isabelle During Her Car VBAC Birth

  • When did you realize you were really in labor?

I had timeable contractions starting around 7:30am on Halloween day.

  • What was the most challenging thing about going natural?

It was more challenging in the days leading up to labor. I was scared and nervous. I asked myself daily why I decided to go natural. Haha. But once I began labor, all those thoughts disappeared.

  • What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?

My second birth was my successful VBAC. I think the most important thing I did was stick to my guns. I knew I could have the birth I desired.
The exercising, eating healthy and chiropractor also tremendously helped.

  • What surprised you about your birth?

My baby came in the car right outside the maternity doors!! I was surprised at how fast things went at the very end. She came very fast, but it was all so exciting and I’d do it over again!

  • I didn’t get that “aha” moment they always tell you, but I also felt so relieved! It was over! I was able to achieve my desired VBAC and my baby was perfectly nice healthy and pink.
  • What pain relief strategies worked best?

Breathing through the contractions worked best for me. I would do a low hum and sway on my birth ball. Towards the very end when I started to have some back labor, the hip squeeze was a lifesaver!!

  • What position did you end up delivering in?

I was sitting in the passenger car seat with my bum elevated. I was holding myself up with my hands on the arm rests and legs planted on the floor.

  • How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?

I didn’t get that “aha” moment they always tell you, but I also felt so relieved! It was over! I was able to achieve my desired VBAC and my baby was perfectly nice healthy and pink.

  • What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?

Stick with it! Those 10 months are long and gives you a good while to think about your upcoming painful birth. Thankfully, we know that the pain is normal and when it starts, you’re so close to meeting your sweet baby.
My other piece of advice is to read Ina May’s Guide to Childbirth. Such a huge encouragement and it keeps your mind thinking positively. I tell every expecting mom they should read it. :)
