Jacqueline's Spontaneous Home Water Birth

  • When did you realize you were really in labor?

    During the middle of a Sesame Street live performance. Patterns of contractions grew stronger and I knew it was the night to give birth.

  • What was the most challenging thing about going natural?

    My first birth was induced without an epidural. My second birth was more of a mystery because it was spontaneous and I did not know if I would be able to recognize if it was time for labor.

  • What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?

    Accepting that there was only one way to not be pregnant anymore- giving birth was the only way!

  • What surprised you about your birth?

    How much different a nine pound baby feels while giving birth!! But, I felt that my baby and I communicated internally through the entire process. It was a beautiful, at-home water birth!!!

  • You can totally do it! Listen to your body and intuition as the primary guide. Support systems are also very crucial in order to build confidence through the delivery process. However, women and their body are incredibly and infinitely powerful to be able to bring LIFE into this world!
  • What pain relief strategies worked best?

    Birthing pool! Breathing deep, making sounds!

  • What position did you end up delivering in?

    All fours in the water.

  • How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?

    Incredible! Beautiful! Proud!!!!

  • What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?
