When did you realize you were really in labor?
This is my fourth child. My water just broke while I was reading to my son a bedtime story. Then the contractions started soon after my water broke.
-
What was the most challenging thing about going natural?
This was my second natural birth. My third child was an unplanned natural birth ( labor progressed very fast and I barely made it to the hospital). This birth I was choosing to do it natural. The most challenging thing about going natural is the unknown with child birth. I had no clue if this would be uncomplicated, long, short, breech or any other labor hiccup that would make natural birth harder.

What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?
I am a christian and the most helpful was memorizing of scripture, listening to my christian birth playlist, the videos on mama natural, hiring a Doula.

What surprised you about your birth?
My little girl while I was in Labor was very active and actually moved during contractions. At some point she turned herself around. I was planning on a total water birth but I only manage to get her head out and then she was stuck by her shoulder. This required me to get out of the water and all fours so that the midwife could assist me and getting her out. By the grace of God she was healthy and I had no trauma or tearing.

What pain relief strategies worked best?
Focusing, low tone humming/growling, visualization
-
What position did you end up delivering in?
On all fours
-
How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?
Like heaven, floating on a cloud. The pain fades away and absolute love flowed over me.
