Grace Name Meaning

A virtue name with a lovely meaning, Grace has the heart of a lion with a sound as soft as a lamb. She’s friendly and approachable yet regal and divine, a moniker held by actress and princess, Grace Kelly. She’s also an all-star middle name choice like Marie and Elizabeth.

Derived from the Latin word gratia, Grace started her rise in the time of the Puritans, much like Abigail. She’s a one-syllable choice like the fashionable Claire with common use in everyday speech that makes misspellings nearly impossible. She’s a standout among other popular names, as word names are typically more common in boys than girls. It’s an understated cool factor that she shares with Willow and Autumn.

A little Grace is delicate and dainty, quick with her manners and polite as can be. She knows how to curtsy and loves to play dress up but isn’t afraid of adventure. She loves escaping to great new worlds through her own imagination whether she’s playing make-believe or reading a storybook. Of course if she’s anything like her name implies, she’d be a skilled athlete or dancer as well.

Variants of the name include Gracie, Gracelyn, and Graciela. Other virtue names that might tickle your fancy are Hope, Verity, Amity, and Felicity.

  1. Anayah ggarce is is beautiful name it means God’s answer

  2. We’ve always loved the name Grace. After a miscarriage and several other trials in our lives, when the lord gave us our baby girl, it seemed fitting to recognize God’s great grace to us by naming our daughter Grace.

  3. I can summarize my life in one word (grace) I’m where i am today by God’s grace I’m a child of God by HIS grace everything we are as a family is by HIS grace! Thank You Jesus ?

  4. Actually Grace was not our choice. We have a son and my hearts desire was to have a daughter even though I was already 41 at the time I was out running and talking to God about it and I felt I heard in my spirit that I was going to have a daughter and to name her Grace and she would be a gift and bring a season of favour into our lives. Grace means unmerited, undeserved favour and a gift as well as the power to do what we otherwise couldn’t. We prayed until I conceived and it was a girl and she is perfect and we definitely need so much grace in this season with our 2 year old having some developmental delay challenges. Grace has been such a blessing.

  5. I have chosen all of our baby’s names because of the meanings of them. Grace means God’s favor, graceful, eloquence or beauty of form, kindness, mercy, favor and love.

  6. I named her Grace because I was never able to get pregnant before. I had tried with previous partners and even when I was in a bad place in life I attempted to get pregnant so I wouldn’t be alone and it never happened. I finally settled down with a man that loves me beyond words and I truly believe God was showing me His Grace when I got pregnant with her.

  7. Grace is our daughters middle name

  8. When my husband and I first started dating 10 years ago, we had a random conversation about what baby names we liked. We both immediately said if either of us ever had a baby girl, we would name her Grace. It sounded like the most beautiful, classic girl’s name. Flash forward to 9 years later, after we were married and found out we were expecting a baby girl of our own, there was no question about what we would name her!

  9. My husband and I loved the names “Hannah” and “Grace” … but as hard as we tried, we kept ending up with 3 names – “Hannah”, “Grace” and my own middle name. So, my hubby came up with the inspirational idea to combine 2 of them into one name. “HannahGrace” … we continue to get compliments for our daughters and their names.

  10. We decided on this name TWO WEEKS after our child was born! It was important to wait for the moment of “knowing,” even if our baby was named “Baby” for awhile! Like many people, we mostly had Grace planned as a middle name, because we felt it was too popular of a name. But I was 44.5 when I had her, plus had health issues which concerned me regarding the birth. But everything worked out with such beauty and support from the universe, that we had this moment almost 2 weeks after having her (and the pressure was on to get her name figured out) where we tearfully discussed the miracle of the whole process of having her, and we realized she WAS Grace! It fits her perfectly and I love having her have a name with meaning.

    • I got the chills reading your story! Congratulations to you Sydney!

  11. Grace is our second daughter. She is almost 6. She has a fire in her. If she’s afraid she hides it and goes on boldly. She can be stubborn too. She has a more subtle sweet side. Some day she may take over the world… or at least run a household efficiently. Her middle name is Michelle.
