Mama Natural Birth Course And Being On The Same Page With Her Husband Helped Alexandra Achieve Home Birth

  • When did you realize you were really in labor?

I was at home timing contractions and they started to be 4 minutes apart (I was having contractions for 3 days BEFORE that, but they were all 7-10 minutes apart)

  • What was the most challenging thing about going natural?

The back pain (I almost gave up 25 hours in because my back hurt so bad -- I had a 32 hours labor)

  • What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?

    - Watching Mama Natural Birth course
    - Reading & watching materials WITH my husband
    - Being on the same page with my husband

  • What surprised you about your birth?

Once her head was coming out, it all went by REALLY fast. The shoulders didn't hurt and I didn't realize the ring of fire. I was just ready for her to be there. I was also surprised at my stamina and how I didn't give up.

  • I barely remember it, but I know I just wanted to see her face - her umbilical cord was so short that she only would go up to my stomach, not my chest. Once I got her on my chest, I was so happy that she was here.
  • What pain relief strategies worked best?

    Horse lips, bathtub, shower!

  • What position did you end up delivering in?

Standing up / squatting position, holding a scarf on the back of the door

  • How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?

I barely remember it, but I know I just wanted to see her face - her umbilical cord was so short that she only would go up to my stomach, not my chest. Once I got her on my chest, I was so happy that she was here.

  • How did the Mama Natural Birth Class help you in your childbirth?

Horse lips, breastfeeding, knowing information about labor
