Spending a Lot of Time Praying and Meditating, Using Affirmations and Reading Birth Stories Helped Nicole During Her Home Birth

  • When did you realize you were really in labor?

When my midwife arrived and told me I was ten centimeters!

  • What was the most challenging thing about going natural?

My son's feet came first, and the cord was prolapse around his foot. I had had two previous cesarean for this same reason, so there were a few minutes where I was absolutely terrified. It was hard to focus through that fear.

  • What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?

Throughout my pregnancy, I spent a lot of time praying and meditating. I also used affirmations and read birth stories about home birth after cesareans.

  • What surprised you about your birth?

The most surprising thing about Gregan's birth was that in spite of the extreme circumstances - footling breech, HBA2C, and cord prolapse- it was the easiest, most peaceful birth I have experienced.

  • Trust yourself, and find a care provider you love and trust also.
  • What pain relief strategies worked best?

    Prayer, deep breathing, inward focus

  • What position did you end up delivering in?

    Hands and knees

  • How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?

It felt like a miracle. We had the ambulance on the way due to the prolapsed cord, and I was sure for a few seconds that I might not be able to hold a living baby.

  • What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?

Trust yourself, and find a care provider you love and trust also.
