When did you realize you were really in labor?
I realized I was truly in labor on a Wednesday morning. I got up and had contractions that were fairly sporadic but not going away.

What was the most challenging thing about going natural?
The most challenging thing about going natural was finding a supportive provider. We ended up choosing a birth center two hours from our home because our town just didn’t have any options other than the hospital.

What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?
Taking the Mama Natural Birth Course really helped! I didn’t know anyone personally who had a natural birth, so those testimonials and knowing what to expect really helped me go into my birth with healthy expectations.

What surprised you about your birth?
I was surprised that the pushing stage went by really fast! Once I started actively pushing I’d say he was put in less than 30 minutes.

What pain relief strategies worked best?
The tub!! Being in the water was so nice!

How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?
All those things you hear about an instant bond are true! I don’t even remember delivering the placenta. It was such a relief to hold him and know the last 27 hours were so worth it to give him the best start I possibly could.

What did you name your baby, and why?
Ours son is named Ethan. It means strong, firm and long lived.
