Looking Forward To Her Birth And Delivery Helped Anna During Her Hospital Birth

  • When did you realize you were really in labor?

I was induced but I knew I was truly in labor when I started having deep breaths and moaning through contractions.

  • What was the most challenging thing about going natural?

The most challenging thing about my births is that I only got one of my doctors to deliver my baby out of 6 kids! Because I don’t get the doctor I've spent the last 9 months building a relationship with to deliver me, the doctor on call doesn’t know my history and just treats me like I’m another high risk patient. (My first 2 kiddos were unnecessarians and my last 4 were all natural VBACs.)

  • What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?

I actually look forward to birth and delivery every time I find out I am pregnant-it’s my favorite part of the pregnancy. So I think just the fact that I am excited for it and have a positive attitude really helps me get through it with ease.

  • What surprised you about your birth?

The fact that even though I thought she would come quickly, she did! It surprised me how smoothly and easily my body worked through the beginning of labor through transition and then birth.

  • YOU CAN DO IT! Your body was perfectly designed to naturally deliver this little bundle of joy that you’ve been cooking in your belly for the last 10 months!
  • What pain relief strategies worked best?

I LOVE THE TUB! It’s the only thing I ever use for pain relief. It really does take the edge off-especially when you are going through double peak contractions and transition.

  • What position did you end up delivering in?

Surprisingly enough, she was my only baby I delivered on my side! I remembered that my friend had told me that was the only way she was able to deliver her kids so I decided to give it a try. I did and 2 pushes-she was out!

  • How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?

Like I had just won the lottery! I never feel closer to my husband than after we have a baby. There’s no greater feeling than delivering your baby and looking into your husband’s eyes and saying, “we did it!”

  • What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?

YOU CAN DO IT! Your body was perfectly designed to naturally deliver this little bundle of joy that you’ve been cooking in your belly for the last 10 months!
