Deborah On Her Knees During Birth

  • When did you realize you were really in labor?

My water broke out of the blue

  • What was the most challenging thing about going natural?

I was more comfortable with the idea of going natural. Because it was my first birth I had no other experience to compare it too. The process went very well and I was very happy with going natural

  • What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?

I rested! As soon as my water broke and I knew labor was on the way I got vertical and rested as much as I could. Even the month before my due date I took everything as easy as I could and rested as much as possible. It helped me have enough energy to get through a first time birth

  • What surprised you about your birth?

How tired I was afterwards! I didn't know how wipped out I was till I went to move after delivering our baby.

  • Mamas who go natural have a very high success rate, if it's at all something you desire then find the resources and support you need to make it happen.
  • What pain relief strategies worked best?

Breathing thru the contractions, and getting in a birthing tub

  • What position did you end up delivering in?

On my knees over the side of the tub

  • How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?

    Euphoric

  • What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?

Mamas who go natural have a very high success rate, if it's at all something you desire then find the resources and support you need to make it happen. Your fears will be based upon the community and exposure you have. If you are scared to try natural birth find a new community that can help you address your fears around it. It is well worth it.
