Focusing on Breathing And Changing Positions Helped Hayley During Her Hospital Birth

  • What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?

Joined a Facebook group for natural birth. The women gave great and real advice, and gave me the confidence that I could have my ideal birth.

  • What surprised you about your birth?

Everything. It was a surreal, empowering experience. Afterwards, I still can't believe I did it. It feels like a dream now. I guess that's why women have multiple children.

  • You're body was meant to do this. Hire a doula, even if you have an amazingly supportive partner. If I can do it, anyone can. Believe in yourself.
  • What pain relief strategies worked best?

Shower, focusing on my breathing, and changing positions.

  • What position did you end up delivering in?

    Side-lying down.

  • How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?

Incredible! A relief to finally hold her, and have the pain in the past.

  • What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?

You're body was meant to do this. Hire a doula, even if you have an amazingly supportive partner. If I can do it, anyone can. Believe in yourself. When contractions got more and more intense, my husband reminded me that we were getting closer to meeting our baby girl.
