Having A Positive Mindset Helped Rachel During Her Natural Home Birth

  • When did you realize you were really in labor?

I woke up at 1 am on November 3. I started having hard contractions right away and knew it was the real deal!

  • What was the most challenging thing about going natural?

The most difficult aspect of my birth was that we had Covid for a week before the delivery, so I was already pretty worn out.

  • What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?

A positive mindset, that this labor could be different and better than all my previous births.

  • What surprised you about your birth?

It only took 8 and a half hours from start to finish!

  • Trust that your body was designed to birth your baby. You can do hard things!
  • What pain relief strategies worked best?

Sitting on the birth ball and in the birth tub, both helped bring some relief.

  • How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?

I was so weak after pushing all 9lbs 12oz of him out that I just sat back in disbelief that he was finally here! It was wonderful to be able to see his face!

  • What did you name your baby, and why?

We named him Zion. Throughout my pregnancy, that name just kept jumping out at my husband and I, and we both loved it.

  • What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?

Trust that your body was designed to birth your baby. You can do hard things!
