  • What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?

Reading books and watching home births helped prepare me for childbirth. Specifically reading, "Childbirth without Fear", and "Ina May's Guide to Childbirth."

  • What surprised you about your birth?

I was surprised my son was born sunnyside up with his cord wrapped tightly around his neck. He received a few breaths before being placed in my arms.

  • Remember our bodies were designed to give birth naturally!
  • What pain relief strategies worked best?

My husband reminding me to breathe, diffusing essential oils, listening to calming music, and the heating pad with pressure on my back were the best pain relief strategies!

  • How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?

Holding my baby for the first time felt like my dream of becoming a Mother finally came to fruition. Holding him felt like I achieved my biggest goal in life.

  • What did you name your baby, and why?

We decided to name our son Ledger. We had gone through a hundred names, and this was one we both liked and thought was unique. Everyone in our family seemed to like it too, so it just stuck!

  • What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?

I would advise other mamas who want to go natural to read and educate your self on the process of birth and to stay healthy and exercise throughout pregnancy to prepare your self for labor. Specifically read, "Childbirth without Fear," "Ina May's Guide to Childbirth," and "Natural Childbirth the Bradley Way." Remember our bodies were designed to give birth naturally!
