Birth Stories

Katie Used the Tub During Her Quick Hospital Birth

  • When did you realize you were really in labor?

I didn't really hit me until I had met my midwife at the hospital for a check up. She checked me and I was 6-7 centimeters! My contractions were anywhere from 2-3 minutes apart to 30 minutes apart so to find out I was that far was shocking to say the least!

  • What was the most challenging thing about going natural?

My baby was posterior so the back pain was my biggest challenge. The tub was my best friend.

  • What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?

I stayed active! I didn't allow myself to lay around as much as I wanted to. I also visited a chiropractor to keep my pelvis and spine in line.

  • What surprised you about your birth?

How fast it was and how much more enjoyable labor was without an epidural! The recovery was the fastest I have had, comparing prior births.

  • You are a strong woman who was made to do this. YOU'VE GOT THIS!!!
  • What pain relief strategies worked best?

I used the tub the most. I also would focus on my breathing reminding myself that once I reach I peak, relief will be right after.

  • What position did you end up delivering in?

Definitely not in a way I would of guessed was an option. I bent over the side of the bed and pushed down in to a squat.

  • How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?

Glorious! I felt relief, amazement, and I was completely happy.

  • What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?

You may think you can't handle the pain, trust me you can! Relax between your contractions (I know I know), slow deep breaths, let all those animal noises out, and don't let anyone tell you that you can't. You are a strong woman who was made to do this. YOU'VE GOT THIS!!!
