Birth Stories

Mia's Midwife-Assisted Home Birth

  • When did you realize you were really in labor?

4am when I woke with contractions that wouldn't go away.

  • What was the most challenging thing about going natural?

Thinking of my 20 month old daughter and the impact seeing and hearing my pain would have on her. Thankfully my sister in law was here to help support her and she was not traumatized :)

  • What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?

Go with midwives! The same team attended both of my births. Their patience, knowledge and love made all the difference. Trusting them and my body was easy thanks to their efforts to build our relationship.

  • What surprised you about your birth?

The similarities between the first and second. Both 11 hrs, both stalled, both extremely intense labors that ended quickly and would have been very different had we been in the hospital!

  • Trust yourself. The pain is temporary and you really CAN do it.
  • What pain relief strategies worked best?

Physical contact with my husband. Water. Movement. Time.

  • What position did you end up delivering in?

Semi reclined on my back for both births!

  • How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?

    Pure relief!

  • What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?

Trust yourself. The pain is temporary and you really CAN do it.
