When did you realize you were really in labor?
I let my midwife break my water on NYE at 39 weeks, 6 days to get in under a $6K insurance deductible that would reset the next day.

What was the most challenging thing about going natural?
The pain! Do other people have different responses? :)

What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?
I rented a bathtub. I labored a lot in one with my second child. Absolutely could not have delivered naturally without it.
-
What surprised you about your birth?
How much I forgot about how badly it hurts!
-
Visualizing every contraction as a step closer to meeting him.
-
What pain relief strategies worked best?
With my first son, and first natural labour, I was scared to death. I was so focused on the pain that I let it overcome me. I made a point, with my third labour/delivery, to really try to focus on my son more & visualize every contraction as a step closer to meeting him. I felt much more relaxed this time around...and it went so much faster! Prayer/meditation, breathing techniques from the previous birth & the bath tub also made it bearable.

What position did you end up delivering in?
sitting in bed
-
How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?
Makes it all worth it.
-
What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?
A doula & bath tub are a must!
