Birth Stories

Reading Birth Stories Helped Christi Achieve Home Birth

  • When did you realize you were really in labor?

About 6pm after very mild contractions that were not regular starting around 10am

  • What was the most challenging thing about going natural?

Knowing that my first birth was quick and intense (at home) and that this probably would be even quicker and more intense (it was)

  • What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?

Same as the first time, reading birth stories

  • What surprised you about your birth?

How fast the pushing phase was this time

  • Practice going with the flow every chance you get. The more you can just go with whatever happens in labor the easier it will be. Not bad practice for being a mom either :)
  • What pain relief strategies worked best?

Walking and my husband putting counter pressure on my lower back and hips

  • What position did you end up delivering in?

Birth stool/squatting - on the floor in the "living room" area of our bus (we live in a 1967 greyhound fully converted)

  • How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?

Perfect and really exciting cuz we didn't know the gender till that moment, a girl! We already have a 3 year old boy

  • What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?

Practice going with the flow every chance you get. The more you can just go with whatever happens in labor the easier it will be. Not bad practice for being a mom either :)
