When my contractions were getting stronger and not going away.

What was the most challenging thing about going natural?
Transition was the most challenging for me. I underestimated the pains I'd have when it came time to push.

What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?
I read books on hypnobirthing and listened to birthing affirmations every night.

What surprised you about your birth?
What surprised me was how different my natural birth center birth was compared to my two previous hospital births. I felt so relaxed and at home at the birth center and didn't have nurses and dr's in and out of the room checking my every hour. I got to lay on a normal bed with my husband massaging my labor pains away. I Got to labor in a tub, move around , ate and drank as I pleased. It's surprising how empowering it was to experience a natural out of hospital labor and birth.

You will never regret going natural. Our bodies are made to give birth. Have the confidence in yourself and you can definitely do this. Birthing affirmations gave me that confidence.

What pain relief strategies worked best?
Massage & laboring in a tub.

What position did you end up delivering in?
I planned on having a water birth but at the very end I ended up most comfortable pushing while laying on my side in bed.

How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?
So breathtaking, he is perfect. He was so alert and awake right after he was born. I'm sure it being an unmedicated birth plays a part in that.

What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?
You will never regret going natural. Our bodies are made to give birth. It is not necessary to be hooked up to machines and nurses and dr's checking you constantly while in labor. Have the confidence in yourself and you can definitely do this. Birthing affirmations gave me that confidence.
