Birth Stories

Walking Around, Showering And Practiced Breathing Helped Janeen During Her Hospital Birth

  • When did you realize you were really in labor?

Actually I was set to work on Tuesday, January 9. I woke up that morning--my water broke, no contractions though. Tried not to fret--I laid around all that day. I had my weekly doctor appointment the next day anyway. Wednesday morning comes, I head to appointment. Still no contractions, just steady slow leak (sometimes fast). I explain everything to doctor. She tells me to head to hospital. So, I went home grabbed some food & my stuff then go to hospital. It was then on my drive to the hospital that I realize I'm in labor because the contractions started. Imagine me driving myself to hospital, eating a PB&J sandwich having contractions, ha!

  • What was the most challenging thing about going natural?

The most challenging thing was the breathing through the contractions. Was real hard not to yell or scream!

  • What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?

I honestly believe working was the greatest thing that really helped prepare me for birth. I work in health care so I'm always on my feet. The fact of me physically moving helped because I wasn't in labor for long.

  • What surprised you about your birth?

The fact that my daughter arrived 28 days, basically a month early. I delivered her on January 11th, she was due February 9th! This fact of her being a premie (4lbs, 12oz)& that she was allowed to go home with me the next day was very surprising to me! I'm so blessed!

  • I would say fight it! Through the pain, blood, sweat, & tears; fight it!!! Your precious bundle of joy is what it's all for. Definitely worth it!
  • What pain relief strategies worked best?

I took a few lamaize classes so the breathing exercises we learned there were very helpful! I walked around, took a shower & practiced breathing. These all helped me.

  • What position did you end up delivering in?

I ended up on my back as I delivered.

  • How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?

It felt absolutely amazing!!! To hold this really tiny, beautiful, precious human being felt like a miracle! Hands down, thee best feeling in the world!

  • What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?

I would say fight it! Through the pain, blood, sweat, & tears; fight it!!! Your precious bundle of joy is what it's all for. Definitely worth it!
