Yomara's Cesarean Birth

  • When did you realize you were really in labor?

    I realized I was really in labor around 2:00 AM.

  • What was the most challenging thing about going natural?

    Refusing any pain medication such as the epidural or any other pain medication.

  • What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?

    The most helpful thing was to read my mama natural book as it contained very helpful tips such as using a birth ball and drinking Red Raspberry Leaf Tea.

  • What surprised you about your birth?

    It was surprising that I had to have a catheter and monitoring device that monitored my contractions. It also surprised me that my baby wrapped himself in the umbilical cord.

  • At first, I felt horrible that I underwent a C-Section, I felt powerless but now I realize that it does not make me any less of a woman and that all was worth it for my baby.
  • What pain relief strategies worked best?

    The birthing ball worked well for me. It also helped to have my partner and parents there as they massaged my feet and body.

  • What position did you end up delivering in?

    I had to have my baby via c-section and so I was in a still position.

  • How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?

    It was such a wonderful and overwhelming feeling. I found myself sobbing and shaking as I saw my baby for the first time and heard his beautiful cry. It was such a heart warming feeling.

  • What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?

    Always keep your initial birth plan but if medically necessary be prepared to change. At first, I felt horrible that I underwent a C-Section, I felt powerless but now I realize that it does not make me any less of a woman and that all was worth it for my baby.
