Birth Stories

Chelsea's Cesarean Birth

  • When did you realize you were really in labor?

I wasn't sure I was in labor. I started experiencing a clear watery fluid the evening prior and barely able to sleep. Kept getting the fluid out. Went to OB ER early the next morning and was tested to see if my water had ruptured. The first test was negative, second was positive. A machine also showed that I was contracting (couldn't feel it) and was dilated to 2cm.

  • What was the most challenging thing about going natural?

Being scared and once the contractions got stronger. Unfortunately, I opted for an epidural and after pushing for three hours and my little one wasn't moving down so they made the swift decision to do a c-section where I had to be fully under.

  • What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?

To be honest, not think about it and go with the flow. The birthing plan was not helpful for me.

How easy it was to push. It felt amazing.

  • What pain relief strategies worked best?

Breathing through the early ones helped and counting.

  • What position did you end up delivering in?

I tried of course on my back and on my hands and knees and on my sides.

  • How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?

The most amazing feeling in the world. I was so in love and bewildered.

  • What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?

It was my plan to go completely normal however it wasn't meant to be. My advice listen to your body. It will tell you all you need.
