Exercising And Doing Stretches Helped Camille During Her Home Birth

  • When did you realize you were really in labor?

I was having timeable contractions 10 minutes apart and they weren’t stopping (the night before I had contractions but then they stopped after about 4-5 hours), I went to the bathroom and lost my mucus plug, that’s when I knew it was "go time!"

  • What was the most challenging thing about going natural?

The most challenging thing this time around was how fast and intense it was. Once I hit active labor my contractions were consistent and didn’t stop until baby was out!! I knew medications or interventions weren’t an option (unless emergency of course) so it wasn’t even a thought in my mind but was very intense, my mind didn’t even have time to go elsewhere at that point!

  • What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?

Start and keep exercising and doing stretches! It helps so much with the body and mind during and after to recovery!! Seriously!

  • What surprised you about your birth?

How fast and intense it was! Also how aware I was of everyone around me. My husband got food poisoning in the middle of labor so I was checking on him making sure he was doing okay! He was really the only person I wanted by me.

  • How committed are you? It’s all about how strong your mind is and how much you want it. If I can do it then anyone can!
  • What pain relief strategies worked best?

The hip squeeze for back labor and having my hubby massage my low back during contractions!

  • What position did you end up delivering in?

I was on my knees leaned up against the tub and went to move and put one leg up and that’s when baby came out!

  • How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?

To be completely real and honest, I was relieved I was done. I hate to admit that I didn’t have that love at first sight feeling but I think many women feel like way right away. I’m more in love than ever now, but right away my adrenalin was still pumping and I was relieved to not be in pain anymore!

  • What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?

How committed are you? It’s all about how strong your mind is and how much you want it. If I can do it then anyone can! I have the lowest pain tolerance in the world!! Your body was meant to do this, it won’t last forever, and it’s so much more beneficial for you and baby to go natural!
